a2 Milk™ is delicious, nutritious and completely natural cows’ milk that many people find easier to digest.
a2 Milk™ has one small but significant difference. All cows’ milk naturally contains protein. We select a specific type of cow that only produces the A2 beta casein protein and no A1. Research has shown the A2 protein is digested differently than A1. There are many people who feel uncomfortable after they drink ordinary milk or lactose-free milk yet they can enjoy a2 Milk™ without discomfort – so this one small difference makes a big difference in many people lives.
a2 Milk™ looks like milk, tastes like milk should, is completely natural and nutritionally dense just like ordinary cows’ milk and is suitable for people of all ages (including children) to drink and enjoy.
The one big difference is in the type of cow.
Different cows naturally produce milk with different protein structures. Our farmers select and separate cows that only produce A2 beta-casein protein. Then, they milk them separately. All other dairy milk has a mixture of A1 and A2 proteins. Research shows that A1 and A2 are digested differently. People all over the world tell us they can feel the difference when they drink a2 Milk™.
a2 Milk™ is a naturally occurring cows’ milk, not a result of a technological process or genetic engineering.
Our milk is pure, 100% natural and has no additives.
Doctors recommend full cream milk for children over 12 months and low fat milk, for children over the age of two. However, people (including children) with a medically diagnosed allergy to cows’ milk protein or lactose should not drink a2 Milk™, or any other natural cows’ milk.
Yes, a2 Milk™ contains levels of lactose comparable to that of standard milk. If the switch to a2 Milk™ allows you to enjoy all of the significant benefits of dairy again, without disturbance to your digestive wellbeing, this is occurring in the presence of lactose.
a2 Milk™ contains the same quantity of lactose that is found in standard milk and will not resolve any medically diagnosed lactose intolerance.
However, if you have diagnosed lactose intolerance but would still like to consume a2 Milk™, a lactase enzyme supplement may help. An example is “Lacto-Free” mini-tablets which, when used according to directions, will help break down the lactose milk sugar making it possible for you to enjoy dairy products without the symptoms.
Cows’ milk allergy is a serious condition and is different to cows’ milk intolerance. If you or your child is known to suffer from a cows’ milk allergy, you should consult your doctor or paediatrician before consuming ANY milk variety, including a2 Milk™.
All milk contains a variety of biologically active factors known to affect the immune system. a2 Milk™ contains all of the proteins that you would find in standard cows’ milk except for the A1 beta-casein protein. Therefore, those people with allergies to the proteins in standard cows’ milk will not be able to drink a2 Milk™.
The major difference is that a2 Milk™ does not contain A1 beta-casein protein, which releases the potent opioid BCM-7 on digestion.
Back in 2000, The a2 Milk Company™ was founded in New Zealand by Dr Corran McLachlan after an amazing discovery.
Today, our mission remains the same: to pioneer the scientific understanding of a2 Milk™ so we can bring more people the pleasure and nutritional goodness that only comes from real and natural milk.

There are over 100 peer-reviewed, evidence-based scientific research papers supporting the A2 protein proposition. The latest human study, published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition in June 2014, demonstrates a difference in digestion between A1 and A2 proteins and supports several animal studies recently published.
