Scientist and pioneer Emeritus Professor Robert (Bob) Elliott has been awarded today with a Knighthood in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.
The a2 Milk Company wishes to congratulate Professor Robert Elliott on his appointment to be Knight Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit (KNZM) honour for his services to medical research.
It is fitting that this announcement has been made today on World Milk Day, as Professor Elliott was instrumental in the foundational research that demonstrated that milk from different cows could have varying impacts on the health of people. In many circles he has become known as “The Father” of A2 beta-casein protein science.
Professor Elliott lodged a patent around the science behind his discovery, which attracted commercial interests leading to the patent being purchased in the early years of The a2 Milk Company.
Professor Elliott has spent his lifetime working in innovative and progressive paediatric research. He co-founded the Child Health Research Foundation in 1971, now known as Cure Kids. Outside of the New Zealand government, Cure Kids is the largest funder of child health research. To date they have invested more than $40 million in New Zealand research to help transform the health of children.
As a New Zealand business, The a2 Milk Company is proud of our long-standing and continuing relationship with Professor Elliott and Cure Kids. In the past year The a2 Milk Company has donated NZ$200,000 bringing the total donations to over NZ$600,000 over the past three years.
Congratulations again to Professor Elliott for this well-deserved recognition honouring his incredible vision and work over the years. At The a2 Milk Company we are thankful for all the support he has given us and are proud of what he is accomplishing to help promote improvement to children’s health.
