Growth Monitoring Study Demonstrates Healthy Growth and Safety in Infants Fed A2-Type Protein Formula
New clinical evidence supports healthy growth and safety in infants fed infant formula made with A1 protein free milk, with exploratory findings suggesting enhanced growth outcomes
A randomised, double-blinded, controlled Growth Monitoring Study presented as a late-breaking oral presentation at NUTRITION 2026, the American Society for Nutrition's annual meeting, found that infant formula made from cow's milk free of A1-type beta-casein (A1PF) supported normal growth and safety over 16 weeks in healthy full-term US infants under 14 days of age at enrolment. The study met predefined U.S. Food and Drug Administration criteria for new formula registration, with infants remaining within World Health Organization-defined healthy growth ranges and no significant differences in adverse events between groups.
Mean daily weight gain was 31.94 g in the A1PF group compared with 30.15 g in the conventional formula group - a difference of 1.79 g/day, exceeding the predefined non-inferiority threshold of −3 g/day. Exploratory post hoc analyses further found infants fed A1PF formula achieved approximately 6% greater total weight gain (3,577.78 g vs 3,376.50 g), approximately 6.6% greater length gain (12.88 cm vs 12.08 cm), significantly higher weight-for-age and length-for-age z-scores at week 16, and approximately 11% higher protein-to-growth ratios for weight.
